The reference to the selected cell would already be visible in the Range option. If you want to lock another partition, you can do it here.

Select the ‘Set permissions’ option.

In the ‘Range editing permissions’ section, choose’ Custom in the ‘Restrict who can edit this range’ option.

Enter the email addresses of the persons you wish to enable to modify then locked cell/range/sheet in the ‘Add editors:’ box.

Click the Done button.

Then the preceding steps would lock the selected cell for everyone except individuals whose email addresses you submitted in Step 8.

You can add more persons to this list later to provide edit rights to others. Also, if you wish to revoke permission from someone who already has it, you can do so.

This option to enable selective access to cells/ranges while locking all other cells is quite beneficial to me. Assume ten workers must enter data into the same Google Sheets spreadsheet.

So, you can configure the permissions such that each individual has editable access to only the cells that they need to fill. In this manner, they can’t tamper with other people’s data (deliberately or unintentionally).

In Google Sheets, you may protect entire sheets.

You can protect an entire sheet as you may save a single cell or a group of cells.

And, like with cells and ranges, so you can keep it entirely sealed for everyone or provide access to certain persons who can update it.

You can also choose to leave some sheets unlocked while protecting a sheet.

The procedures to safeguard a whole sheet in Google Sheets are as follows:

Right-click on the sheet tab you wish to protect and select Protect.

Select ‘Protect the Sheet.

[Optional] Enter a description for the Sheet you’re protecting in the ‘Protected Sheets and Ranges’ pane that appears.

Then selected sheet name would already be visible in the Sheet choice. If you want to protect another sheet, you can alter the sheet name here.

Select the ‘Set permissions’ option.

Ensure ‘Only you’ is chosen in the ‘Restrict who can edit this range’ option under the ‘Range editing permissions.’

Click the Done button.

The methods outlined above would secure the Sheet so that you could only edit it.

When you Lock Cells in Google Spreadsheets, you can also do the following:

You can grant some of the people who can edit it access. Select Custom in Step 6 and then enter the emails of the persons who will have access to and can change the sheets.

You can choose to leave select cells accessible while protecting the full Sheet. To do so, select the ‘Except some cells’ option in the Protected sheets and ranges window and then specify which partitions you want to keep unlocked.

Display a warning but allow locked cells to be edited.

Another option for locking cells in Google Sheets is partially to close them but to display a warning message when someone (with the right to change the Sheet) attempts to open them.

This could be useful since it would warn the user that these cells must be handled carefully so that they do not accidentally change or delete the cell content.

How to Secure a Cell in the Google Sheets Mobile App

Because there is no option to safeguard a range, locking cells in the Google Sheets mobile app is currently impossible.

You can, however, safeguard your entire Sheet by managing access. To accomplish this:

In the mobile app, open your Sheet.

To access a menu, tap the three dots to the right.

Go to Share and select Export.

Select Manage Access.

If you have persons added to the spreadsheet, choose the person whose rights you want to update and the permissions you wish to utilize. If you select Viewer or Commenter, the other user cannot change the Sheet. You can even remove them entirely, denying them access to the Sheet.

Tap Restricted and select the options you want to change public access for everyone.

How to Hide and Show a Sheet

Lock Cells in Google Spreadsheets, you can hide and unhide a sheet by following these steps:

Launch your spreadsheet.

Locate the Sheet you want to conceal.

On the sheet tab, click the dropdown arrow.

From the context menu, choose “Hide sheet.”

This will hide your Sheet so that it does not appear in the sheet tabs at the bottom, and the sheet tab will be greyed out if you go to settings.

To reveal the Sheet,

On the sheet tab, click the dropdown arrow.

Choose “Unhide sheet” from the dropdown option.

Navigate to View > Hidden Sheets.

Select Show Sheet 1. (The name of the concealed Sheet will be displayed.) The Sheet will be restored to view, and the Sheet’s tab will be visible and active.

You can also click the three lines adjacent to the sheet tab and then click the grayed-out hidden Sheet to make it display again.

Who Has the Authority to Protect a Range or Sheet?

Anyone with edit access to a sheet in Google Sheets can protect a range or Sheet. However, it is crucial to note that protection settings can only be altered by the person who set them or by someone who has been allowed access to edit the protected ranges or sheets.

For example, if you protect a range in a sheet and share it with others, those users can view the protected content but only modify it once you grant them access. So, if you wish to allow someone else to edit the protected range, add them to the list of users in the secure range’s permission settings.

Conclusion
